The girls in 5th and 6th examined the properties of magnets before constructing their own magnet using the following:
- an AA battery and battery holder
- a lightbulb (to test the battery)
- An steel nail (ferromagnetic core)
- A length of insulated wire
- Some paper clips (For testing)
